FAME Performance
Saturday, March 27, 2010
What is FAME? FAME, The Foundation for Art and Music in Elementary Education, is a membership of arts teachers dedicated to teaching cultural arts to K-8 children in northern Indiana. One of FAME's annual programs are their regional, one day festivals held in Merrillville, Ft. Wayne, and Wabash (where we will perform). This year the focus is on the culture of Germany, Poland, and Japan. You can check out their website at www.famearts.org.
Departure Time: Meet at HU parking lot at 12:00. Depart at 12:15. Please eat lunch before you come. We are leaving early so we can observe a feature concert of alphorn players at 1:00.
Carpooling: We will carpool to Wabash. Please let Sharon know if you can drive and take additional singers with you. If you plan on transporting your singer on your own you need to let Sharon know that also. (basingerlehman@yahoo.com)
Performance Time: 1:30 p.m. This is a mandatory performance. Any absences must be cleared with Sharon. TREBLE CHOIR only is performing.
Performance Location: The Honeywell Center, downtown Wabash.
Performance Dress: Maroon CCHC polo shirt, khaki pants (simple style – no cargo pockets), clean tennis shoes. No large hair accessories – try to match any barrettes , headbands, etc. to the color of your hair.
Cost: There is no cost for the students who are performing. However, adults and any siblings attending will need to pay to enter the festival. We think the cost is $3.00 and will confirm that next week.
Return time: Tentative until we've received a complete schedule. We are planning on having the singers stay for awhile after their performance so they can particpate in some of the additional activities available at the festival. Anyone transporting singers will be asked to stay so that all singers have an opportunity to enjoy the activities. More info on this as it becomes available.

Without all of the planning, scheduling, and time that all of you have put into this trip, our children would not have been able to experience this opportunity. Our singers did a wonderful job on their recordings and really enjoyed the overall professional experience that they received. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to make this happen.

A letter to parents from the CCHC Board of Directors:
Dear Parents,
The CCHC Board of Directors and Parents Association apologize for the confusion with the parent’s meeting last Monday evening. However, the meeting served a good purpose in giving you the opportunity to raise some questions, concerns, and suggestions. The board has discussed each of them and is dedicated to taking action in helping the Children’s Choir run smoother, mainly decreasing confusion and increasing communication. Here is some information in response to the parent comments:
- To improve communication, the Monday Memo is already including contact names and phone numbers for you to utilize when you have a question. Angel Wiley has recently stepped into the Parents Association secretary role and is typing the Monday Memo. Please thank her for volunteering for this role. It is certainly hard work trying to learn the ropes of such a great task your first year with the choir. The Board and Parent officers and directors will be assisting her more closely by proofing the Monday Memo each week before it is printed. This will ensure more comprehensive and accurate information.
- The Monday Memo will also include a list of upcoming events for you to coordinate with your calendar. We set a calendar at the beginning of the season, but inevitably, schedules change and the Monday Memo is the key for you to staying informed. Periodically, we are asked to perform at community functions not included in the initial schedule handed out in the Fall. These performances are good opportunities to give the students additional performance experience, gain publicity, and obtain additional funding.
- Concern has been expressed regarding the safety of children as they are being picked up by parents after dismissal. As stated in the handbook, drive up to the Merillat Centre from the south so that children will get in and out of your vehicle on the passenger side. If vehicles go both directions the situation becomes dangerous. Although there is other traffic not related to choir, we can make the situation as safe as possible by lining up parent vehicles in one line and not allowing children to cross the street. The Treble Choir parent rehearsal assistant will be walking the children up from rehearsal and assisting in loading. Thank you for helping us keep the children safe.
- The informal uniform shirts have been ordered and will be handed out when they arrive. (I have contacted Debbie to verify they have been ordered) If there are students who still need alterations to their formal uniform, please contact Nancy Barnes at 358-4262. (I am waiting for confirmation from her and won’t print this until I hear from her.)
- We know that it has been confusing having the choirs rehearse in separate locations. This was due to the University needing the Concert Choir rehearsal space. Starting in January, both choirs will be rehearsing again at Huntington University. Due to limited meeting space at HU, please note any meeting locations in the Monday Memo. Some meetings may be at St Peter Lutheran School.
- Volunteering and fundraising are critical to sustaining the Children’s Choir. Tuition covers less than 50% of the yearly budget. Our board members, parent representatives and officers volunteer their time for the children. The Choir is a large organization with many activities throughout the year. Our organization cannot survive without active involvement from parents. When you are called to volunteer with an activity that you signed up for, please help. The kids depend on it.
